G20: Prime Minister Modi pitches for 'fusion approach' to address challenges in agriculture

New Delhi,  According to Prime Minister Modi, the agriculture industry is struggling around the world because of pandemic and "geo-political tensions" that have disrupted the supply chain.

on Friday asked the G20 agriculture ministers to meet and discuss joint efforts to ensure food safety around the world. He argued that India's policy of combining conventional and technology-enabled ways was the solution to many issues in the agricultural industry.

"Geopolitical tensions have compounded the effects of the epidemic disruptions on the supply chain.

Extreme weather is becoming increasingly often as a result of climate change. Modi, speaking via video message at the G20 agriculture ministers' summit in Hyderabad, said, "These issues are felt primarily by the global South (poor countries).

He emphasized the difficulties by saying, "We must discover ways to develop sustainable and equitable food systems, focused on marginal farmers. We need to figure out how to fortify fertilizer supply lines around the world. In the meanwhile, implement agricultural methods that boost soil quality, crop vitality, and harvest success.

Alternatives for regenerative agriculture could be developed based on traditional traditions from around the world.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need of making solutions accessible for small and marginal farmers in the global South when discussing the need to empower farmers with innovation and digital technologies. Another pressing issue is the need to stop wasting food and farming supplies and put those resources toward "creating wealth from waste."

He shed some light on India’s role in the agricultural sector, noting that India is encouraging both natural farming and farming made possible by technology through its strategy of a fusion of ‘back to basics’ and ‘march to future’. The Prime Minister has stated, "I believe this 'fusion approach' is the best way to address several issues in agriculture."
